Here's what summer workshop
participants are saying:

This class not only changed me as a conductor, but it also changed me in my choral musicianship as a whole. Mrs. Henderson is a knowledgable conductor who works with you on whatever level you are and takes you to a level you didn't think was possible in such a short amount of time!  (-Bella T.)

D.C. al Fine's conducting program is outstanding and invaluable. Mrs. Henderson is extremely knowledgeable and she gives personal constructive feedback that is helpful in learning and growing as a conductor. Any musician will gain advantageous skills in music theory and conducting. Overall a magnificent program.  (Lena S.)

I’ve had so much fun! I can’t wait until the fall sessions!  (-Rose M.)

2020-2021 Conducting Seminar

Things are looking a little different this year, due to COVID-19. Our Conducting Seminars will not be held this year. Instead, you can register for one or more online Conducting Workshops, with offerings tailored to new and experienced conductors.
D.C. al Fine | D.C. al FEE-nay |
noun

(1) A unique choral experience for young people in the greater Washington, DC area;

(2) The musical abbreviation for "Da capo al fine," a directive to go back to the beginning of a piece of music and then proceed to the place marked fine (the end of the composition).

(3) Simply put, "From top to bottom."

Choral Conducting Workshops:  Interested high school and college students, as well as adults, may register for our any of our online Choral Conducting Workshops, where they will participate in four sessions led by our program director and one masterclass led by another professional conductor. Workshops are available for both new and experienced conductors - sign up for Conducting Foundations or Conducting Techniques today!

Masterclass Clinicians:  Each 5-week workshop will include one masterclass with a well-respected conductor.
The Seminar Track:  Students who are interested in learning to conduct may apply for a spot in this selective program.  Seminar Track participants engage in a weekly seminar where they gain hands-on experience and constructive feedback through master classes with university professors and through regular opportunities to conduct the choir in rehearsals and performances. Due to COVID-19, the seminar track will not be held this school year, but students interested in conducting may sign up for any of the Choral Conducting Workshops we are offering via Zoom.

The Choir Track:  Accomplished high school and college-aged singers may audition to participate in the Choir Track, where they will participate in choral clinics with university professors, and sing under the direction of the program director as well as the seminar participants. Due to COVID-19, the choir track will not be held this school year.

Visiting Conductors: In non-COVID times, students in both tracks get the chance to work with Directors of Choral Studies from universities such as JMU, GMU, CNU, Radford, Shenandoah, VCU, WLU, and VWU.

Where/When we meet:  In non-COVID-19 times, D.C. al Fine meets evenings at the First Presbyterian Church of Annandale, just 5 minutes inside the beltway in Northern VA. If you're not convenient to the area, 2020-21 is your lucky year! We're meeting via Zoom.
